The updated  2008 NWISA  schedule is on the Schedule page.

Portland  reports that another new team is forming for this spring  in that area and the possibility of programs starting at Vancouver Lake & Newport Oregon. Bellingham area is also working on getting a team going out of Lakewood for this spring.

Anacortes team is looking for a coach , they have 16 students ready to sail.

Date was tentatively set for a coaches clinic on Saturday March 1st.

Date for High School racing clinic was moved to March 2nd at Sail Sandpoint.

Seattle Yacht Club will host Kick -Off Regatta March 8th.

Port Townsend Open Regatta  date was changed  from 5/17 to 5/24

Discussed the NOOD regatta 5/17 &18 at Shilshole ..... I am encouraging all teams with V-15's to bring all their boats to NOOD's and share any extra boats  with schools that don't have V-15's. (this  is not just a high school event but is a great chance for us to try to create a place where our sailors can face stiffer double-handed competition with lots of boats on the starting line)

Still looking for a volunteer to handle publicity for the NWISA regattas.

The Willamette Sailing Club has started a model program for developing high school sailing by providing coaches, facilities and equipment for any interested high school sailor in the Portland, OR / Vancouver, WA area.
This is a great opportunity for yacht/sailing clubs in metropolitan areas to grow the sport by enabling schools to get started without a huge start-up cost.
Our smaller communities have A yacht club supporting A high school team. This is the first time we've had A club with a program specifically to support MANY schools.

We hope they've started a trend.

  • We want to have a page about our alumni - those sailors who've experienced life on the water beyond high school.  We know we have several who have competed in various World Championships, and several others attending maritime academies.  Some are getting paid to teach and coach.   But we'd also like to hear about the lucky ones that are just sailing around someplace warm for work or play.  Send anything to me and I'll get it posted.  Don't wait for the coach to send it to me, YOU do it... NOW!
