REGATTA DESCRIPTIONS

 

Jan 26  - Coaches Clinic

At SYC Elliot Bay outstation. The guest coach will be Allison Jolly, Coach at the University of South Florida and winner of a gold medal in the 470 at the 1988 Olympics in Korea.  Contact Dick Rose for more information.

Mar 2 - Kick Off Regatta

Fleet race at SYC in Portage Bay sailing in V15s.  Open to all teams, multiple teams,2 person teams, mixing is allowed.

Mar 9 - Regional Regattas - (two fleet races simultaneously divided by geography)

One fleet race in Bellingham with (Sehome, Squalicum, Bellingham, Orcas, Friday Harbor, Anacortes, Everett, any Seattle Schools)

One fleet race in Poulsbo with (North Kitsap, Central Kitsap, Bainbridge, Port Townsend, Portland, Kingston)  

Regatta open to all teams, multiple teams, 2 person teams, mixing is allowed.

Top half of each regatta qualifies to gold division of Mar 16-17 regatta.

Mar 16-17 - Combined Division Regatta (pre-seeded from Mar 9-10)

Fleet race at Sail Sand Point.  Combined division means both A and B divisions are racing at the same time to make a more competitive fleet.  Teams are still scored based on A and B division totals.  Gold and Silver divisions rotate every two races.  Open to all teams.  Teams that did not race Mar 9-10 will sail in Silver Fleet.  Multiple teams, 2 person teams, and mixing allowed subject to seeding of Mar 9-10 regatta)

Mar 23-24 - Team Race OR 2V2 Regional Events

Team Race at Bainbridge Island.  Pre-seeded by 3 coaches to create more even racing.  

Open to all teams, multiple teams, mixing is allowed. Team Race at Bainbridge is first choice unless Bainbridge can’t host an event, then regional events will happen.

Mar 30-31 - No Regatta - Easter Weekend

April 6-7 - Island Cup

Fleet Race at Orcas Island. Backup qualifier for nationals. Open to all teams, multiple teams, 2 person teams, and mixing is allowed, however teams must be registered official teams in order to qualify to nationals.

April 13-14 - 2v2 Random Pairings

2v2 Team race in Silverdale. Skipper/crews are randomly paired from all competitors.  Open to all teams, multiple teams, 2 person teams, and mixing is allowed.

April 20-21 -Team Race

Team race at Portland.  Backup qualifier to nationals. No pre-seeding.  Teams must be 6 kids from the same high school, only 1 team per school, and mixing is not allowed unless a JV course will be run.  Results of this regatta determine seeding for District Champs on May 4-5

April 27-28 - Fleet Race Districts

Fleet race District Champs at Bellingham.  Only 1 team per registered school, 4 to 8 kids per team, no mixing between schools.  These rules apply to varsity course only.  Winner qualifies to Nationals.  Boats used determined by regatta organizer.

May 4-5 - Team Race Districts

Team race district champs at Sail Sand Point.  Seeding based on April 13-14 team race regatta.  Only 1 team per registered school, 6-9 kids per team, no mixing between schools.  Boats used determined by regatta organizers.  Winner qualifies to Nationals.  Rules apply to varsity course only.

May 11-12 - Mallory Trophy (Fleet Race Nationals)

May 18-19 - No Regatta

May 25-26 - Baker Trophy (Team Race Nationals)
